My name is Bo Ideal and this is The Iron Qualities – a blog that looks to capture and define what it means to be a man in the today’s world.
Teddy Roosevelt – 26th President of the United States – once said:
“We need the iron qualities that go with true manhood. We need the positive virtues of resolution, of courage, of indomitable will, of power to do without shrinking the rough work that must always be done.”
When we are at school, we are encouraged to learn skills and knowledge that will make us useful in industry.
And mainsteam media teaches us what to think so that we function efficiently within society
But by and large, modern life does not teach us how to be a man. Really be a man
All that’s required of you is to be a cog in the machine – a worker ant conditioned to fulfil a specific purpose.
But we are not ants…we are men.
And there is a deeper purpose in all of us. A more profound sense of what we should be. It calls to us now and again and when we do something that resonates with this purpose, it just feels right.
This is the iron qualities – the elements of being a man.
Roosevelt was one of history’s great men. And I’m not talking about his political persuasions or accomplishments. He lived a life that embodied the message in his quote. He said we need the iron qualities – well Roosevelt himself had them and it is through his example and the example of other great men from the past and present that we can discover these qualities for ourselves.
I haven’t become the man I am today by accident – and it didn’t happen overnight. There was a lot of trial and error – blood, sweat and tears. And there will be more to come. That’s the way it should be.
It’s like the man says: “Joy is not found in finishing an activity, but in doing it.” And the great thing about this activity – this journey – is that it never ends.
This blog is that journey – a journey to explore exactly what the iron qualities are and how to apply them to everyday life. The true and positive virtues of being a man, living every day like a beast and separating signal from the noise in the modern world.
It’s never too late to come of age. Striving towards discovering The Iron Qualities and applying the principles behind them will result in a richer, more authentic and ultimately more enjoyable life.
Through The IQ, I will share my continuing experiences of striving to become the best man I can be. From the motivational to the practical; learning new skills to rediscovering old tips and tricks. Through my experiences, I hope you will find the occasional pearl of wisdom that will help you in your own journey so that together, we can become the men we were born to be
